Ok. Before you judge, let me tell you how this all came about. Brett and I were excitedly talking about our trip to Sweden next summer when it hit us. "What are we going to do about Donny?!" Sure, there are plenty of people here in Vermillion that could up and check on him every day. But Donny loves people. Almost two weeks without them would be enough to change that cat forever, I'm sure of it. He needed a friend. A female friend, I decided. So, I batted my eyelashes at Brett and said, "You know what would be a great gift for passing comps...?"
Yes, friends, we have another cat (and, yes, I did pass my comps!).
Unfortunately, Donny didn't take to her as fast as we were hoping. (We were told in pre-marital counseling that we both tend to have too idealistic views of the world. I guess it came into play here.) Donny greeted little Mercedes (or Sadie as we call her) with growls and hisses the first couple days. I was beside myself. "Can't you just love her, Donny?! Have we taught you nothing?" Sadie, on the other hand, just purred her little heart out. She seemed happy to have a new family; even if her older brother wasn't the nicest.
A few days have passed, and Donny's warming up to Sadie. Sadly, I think Sadie had some kind of virus which she may have given to Donny, which caused much gnashing of teeth, but I'll spare you the details. All in all, we now have two cats, and I'm hoping they'll become best friends soon.
And, yes, we are sure this one's a girl. I took her the vet yesterday myself.
